Well here’s a list of events as far as I can remember from the last 2 months and a some comments about them:
Return from Honeymoon : (
Moving Scott from the Oregon City house to the Happy Valley house- I will just say one thing- I’m amazed we made it through that hurdle in our marriage- one of the harder things we had to do- right off the bat.
Moving into our new FAMILY ward- At first we were a bit worried- but now that we’ve been there for awhile we like it, and we got a calling!! We are team teachers in the primary over the 8-9 year olds... and there are 12 of them!! We are super excited and glad we get to spend all of church together.
Getting our house organized/put together while juggling work, friends, family and being brand new to marriage and living together.
Starting daily Scripture study, family prayer, and weekly FHE together.
Cooking dinner every night for the two of us- using amazing new recipes from America’s Test Kitchens Made Simple- AWESOME!
Company Golf Tournament together- we weren't last, we weren't first ; )
Temple Trips- MY FAVORITE ; )
Weekly Date nights, (movies, dinners, hanging out, sleeping, talking)
Having Scott’s nephew’s for the weekend- we went to a Scandinavian Viking Festival! It wasn’t as exciting as it sounded but not too bad.
Going to lots of weddings, family events and baby blessings.
Huge 4th of July Event at Scott’s parents house along with Scott’s Mom side family reunion- lots of fun meeting lots of his family.
Going on hikes with friends- beautiful Oregon!!
Making Strawberry Jam for the first time with Sara at Scott’s Mom’s house!
Going to the Safari in Southern Oregon and also... Noah’s ark... Interesting experience... but something to laugh about later... The Safari was alright- overpriced, and you can’t hold baby tigers etc. like I thought- I think that’s a Cat Park we will have to go to later. Noah’s ark... well that was just creepy! A talking Santa that was named Moses telling us Noah’s story, an old couple dressed odd- and a huge place you can only see a part of- where you constantly feel you are in a horror movie where they are going to pick you off one by one and take you into the huge back part you don’t see.... Oh and REALLY Disgusting food... but like I said- something to laugh about later ; )
Doing a Chopped re-enactment with Ashley and Miriam- it was AMAZING- 3 rounds, Appetizer, Main Dish and Dessert, 20 min for the first one, 30 min for the 2nd and 3rd round... We made it working together in the time limit for the first one- not for the last 2, but that’s ok- we had tons of fun, and REALLY want to do it again.
How we did it: There were 3 of us participating, We split up the main ingredients for each dish between the 3 of us,
Appetizer: The products we ended up with when we came together were kiwi, honey, pepperoni and green peppers- as you can see we made a salad with a honey vinaigrette and fried pepperoni- yes- it was really good!
Main Dish:The products we ended up with for the main dish were pork, apricots, rhubarb and jalepeno bagels! We decided on fried bagel slices with cheese on top (good!) Grilled pork, and a rhubarb, apricot, cream cheese, sour cream and other things salsa on top of the pork- WOW! Huge hit! The salsa ended up perfectly creamy and complimenting the pork!
Dessert: For dessert we had a ruff time, we ended up with cherries, cheese fondue, and chopped nuts. So we decided on a cherry crisp- it was not too bad, considering the ingredients- but next time we would do a different kind of fruit with the crisp, and no cheese fondue that turned out to be really garlicy!!
Each of us got 1 thing from each of the categories- and one extra from one of the categories- totally 4 for each person.
When we got together- we only brought out the item(s) we got for the appetizer round- we pulled it out at the same time, looked at them, then started the timer for 20 min. We then planned out what we wanted to make, and got going! (See pictures for our final products) The dish was amazing by the way ; ) Something we’ve never done before and probably never would have thought of- but would totally do again- fried pepperoni? Oh yah!!
We then ate, judged ourselves (kindly of course) and went on to pulling out the ingredients we got for the main dish ***NOTE: We did purchase/bring together basic ingredients to have items on hand as “pantry items” such as flour, sugar, spices, etc.*** We then got going- planning etc. unfortunately we didn’t make that round on time because we decided on pork- and didn’t want to stop just because of the time and have raw pork- but... it was one of our best dishes- and we are definitely doing this dinner again!!
Finally we got to the dessert round- we were exhausted- so we decided to take a break and nap- BAD IDEA- You may want to- but don’t, you won’t have the energy and enthusiasm again. Anyway- we finally got around to doing it- and had a tuff item- cheese fondue- garlic cheese fondue- but finally came up with an idea for a cherry crisp and got to work- it was alright- but maybe we won’t make that one again ; )
All-in-all one of the best experiences i’ve had, will totally do it again, and a great way to come up with good recipe’s you would never come up with otherwise! And so fun to be surprised each round with ingredients and figuring out what to make with it! I would definitely suggest doing this with anyone!!
Cherise’s once every 5 year family reunion in Driggs Idaho- with Cherise’s Grandmas’ siblings and all of their family’s. It was soooooo fun, and great to be around so much family!! Awesome to learn about so much family history!
Hanging out with friends and family... lots! Trying to get some sleep in between all of the stuff we need to do- and looking forward to replacing floors, and re-doing the backyard of the Happy Valley house.
Going to REALLY miss Ashley Kitchen!! She is moving to D.C. She has changed our life’s forever- she set Scott & I up, and she was our motivator in all of our friendships to get up and do all the stuff that sounded fun to us. She is also one of the sweetest, most caring, devoted friend I’ve had. I love you Ashley! I will miss you!!
